Garden Log -- March 8, 2018

Despite the temps flirting with freezing at night the past two days, I decided to get a start on the garden.  I planted out a few things that will need to be covered should it freeze, but most of these things can take a little cold weather.

We've both been fighting a cold and sore throat the past couple of days, so work outside is suffering for me. Gardening while on Benadryl is tough! ha! John just barrels through and refuses to slow down.  I'm sure its not good for him, but I can't get him to slow down.

Here's what is planted in Bed A#1:
  1. Arkansas Traveler Tomato (2 plants) - Seeds from FB Group
  2. Siber Frill Kale - Pinetree Seeds - my favorite vegetable from last year's garden, a beautiful, big kale!
  3. Gigante d' Inverno Spinach - Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds
  4. Hong Tae Pak Choy - Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds
  5. Extra Dwarf Pak Choy - saved seeds from last year's garden
  6. Solar Yellow Carrots - Trade Wind Fruit
  7. Matina Sweet Lettuce - Pinetree Seeds
  8. Freckles Lettuce - Pinetree Seeds
  9. Red Cheese Sweet Peppers (6 plants) - Seeds from FB Group
  10. Cranberry Fielder Beans (10 beans) - Seeds from FB Group - these are pole beans usually eaten as dry beans
  11. Pink Plume Celery - Seed Savers Exchange
  12. Lettuce Leaf Basil - Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds
This year instead of planting all of the same type of plants together, I'm separating them so that I can attempt to save seeds. This is a new endeavor for me, I've saved some very easy seeds in the past (okra, beans, etc.) but no tomato and others that require distance to keep the variety pure.  We'll see how it goes.  It's going to be fun - if you see a ribbon around a plant in the garden, that means don't pick!!
Both of the Arkanses Traveler tomato plants were about this size.
Everything is sprouting now - this is what the agarita plants all look like right now!
Lots of female blooms on the mulberry trees!

More garden news tomorrow!
